Christmas Comes Early: Cafeteria Worker Buys Mercedes-Benz for Twenty Dollars

Good things come to those who wait. We've all heard that saying about patience; it inspires us to be hopeful about the future based on the good work we do in the present. Cafeteria worker Maurice Matthews had no idea that he would be given a luxurious gift for all of his hard work at the Pittsburg Steelers' team complex from the franchise's former secondary coach, Ray Horton. On Ray's final day at the complex (before taking over as defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals) he sold his 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL500 to Matthews, who had always taken such good care of him at the complex.

When Horton approached Matthews and asked for all of the money in his pocket, Matthews was confused but handed over a $20 bill, at which point he told the cook the Mercedes-Benz was his to keep. The cook had always joked around with the coach, asking him when he would be allowed to drive the luxury car. The next day Matthews drove Horton to the airport and filled out all of the paperwork necessary for transferring ownership. Matthews ended up paying $20 for a 64,000 miles vehicle that carries a value of over $17,000.

We at Motor Werks of Barrington certainly are inspired by Horton's giving nature. It even inspires us to give more of ourselves during this holiday season.
